Open House Limerick
18-20 October 2013

OpenHouseLimerick will mount a weekend of site-visits, walking tours, children's activities, to engage with and involve the general public, providing a memorable experience of what good architecture is and of the ways in which it might be a force for cultural, social and economic good. Limerick It is the fourth most populous city in the Irish state and in 2014 Limerick will be  Ireland's first City of Culture.

Curated by a local voluntary committee with support from the Irish Architecture Foundation, the programme includes visits to city & county landmarks from the contemporary architecture of the University campus to private dwellings and historic private houses.

Highlights for the 2012 event include:

Tara- Mary Immaculate College, SCR Limerick, (2010) - Educational Building comprised of a range of naturally ventilated teaching spaces including the new ‘Lime Tree Theatre’ performance space.  A student forum is designed to take advantage of the difference in level across the site and provides the student body with a social hub within the campus

SAUL: School of Architecture University of Limerick - Architecture encompasses art, science and method, but fundamentally architecture is a way of thinking that is learned in a design studio.
