About Open House Bern

Open House Bern not only focuses on the famous Old Town known for its arcades, but also shows other sides of the city, such as Bern West, which is currently undergoing an urbanistic revolution. A surge in new constructions is welcoming new residents to neighborhoods that, until recently, were considered peripheral. In the new housing co-operatives in Holligen residents and architects come together to discuss visionary proposals that respond to social and ecological challenges.

The Aare River meanders through the city’s heart, granting Bern its original structure and infusing nature into the heart of the urban landscape. Its surroundings allow housing and natural areas to coexist. Bern is not simply a city surrounded by nature; it also embeds nature within its boundaries. As such, the city harmoniously merges its status as the nation’s capital and a cultural hotspot with its appeal as a desirable living environment. Open House Bern invites you to celebrate the architecture of the city we love by opening over 50 buildings and outdoor spaces. From iconic landmarks to the intriguing house next door, let’s get together and discover new facets of Bern!
