The starting point for the Vihreistä vihrein - the greenest of the green - residential block in Helsinki’s Jätkäsaari was to build a block that was as green as possible. The block’s special features include green roofs with container gardens and conservatories, communal saunas and cooling-off patios with fruit trees and berry bushes, meadow roofs, and sound-absorbing moss paneling against the walls. Architect Pia Ilonen and landscape architect Pia Kuusiniemi give a guided tour around the block.
