About Open House Prague

Prague is considered one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world. The Old Town represents manifestation of medieval urbanism but city itself is full of architectural works of Gothic, Baroque and Modernism. Although you may know the city for its historical and cultural heritage there are some high-quality contemporary pieces built in past few years. Prague’s inhabitants may enjoy nice view on the way to work and the city attracts tourists from all over the world to see its varied fascinating buildings. But what is hidden behind those terrific facades? Many buildings are not open for public, thus not even locals have a chance to look inside of them.

Open House Prague opens the city to its community and shows interiors of commonly inaccessible buildings and spaces, from industrial monuments to historic palaces, modernly designed offices, eco-friendly buildings, sport, cultural and educational facilities or residential development, all from 15th up to 21st centuries. For demanding and curious visitors there are also railway stations, abandoned buildings and mysterious cemeteries to see. Usually the festival showcases around 70 houses and spaces in the course of one weekend and during the foregoing week it offers various extra programmes. Large network of over 300 volunteers is helping with the organization providing free access to all buildings with talks, tours and activities for children. The festival wants to make the city accessible for everyone, that is why organisers also prepare special tours for hearing impaired and visually impaired people.

The festival is organised by a non-profit organization Open House Praha and its first edition was held in 2015. Over the years it became one of the most important cultural events in Prague supported by the Mayor of Prague and Mayors of the individual city districts.
