About Open House Tallinn

Tallinn is well-known because of its unique Medieval old town that is listed as UNESCO heritage site. Yet this Baltic city has a wide selection for architectural sightseeing reflecting different different ages: from the romantic Tsarist-era to the unforgettable 20th -century wooden house districts. A modern shopping and business district in the city entre compliments the tableau, making Tallinn an amazing blend of old and new. Open House Tallinn event aims to introduce the local architecture to citizens while encouraging them to appreciate the value of good design and urban planning. Many valuable old, newly built or renovated buildings have raised attention among the citizens but are nevertheless closed to the general public. Tallinn Open House engages the public with the city on a completely new level, offering a unique experience to both the inhabitants of Tallinn and visitors from elsewhere to places which are normally inaccessible. In addition, this interaction helps to raise discussions between the public, the architects and the authorities on the topics of built environment and urban culture. All guided tours are free of charge with architects, designers and volunteers taking the role as guides.

The Tallinn Open House event is organised by Estonian Centre for Architecture (ECA). ECA is a non-profit institution developing architectural culture in Estonia and promoting contemporary Estonian architecture abroad.
