This April: Open House festivals in Athens, Slovenia, and Nicosia
OPEN HOUSE ATHENS
ATHENS, GREECE
4-5 APRIL
This edition of Open House Athens will open more than 70 buildings to the public. As one of Greece’s leading architectural institutions, Open House Athens promotes architecture and understanding of the built environment. Public and private spaces — historic and contemporary buildings, homes, offices, hotels, and cultural venues — offer free guided tours led by 500 volunteers. This year’s theme, Emerging City highlights new architects, recent projects, innovative adaptive reuse, and the evolving urban identity of modern metropolises.
OPEN HOUSE SLOVENIA
VARIOUS CITIES, SLOVENIA
17–19 APRIL
The seventeenth edition of Open House Slovenia explores the theme All Measures of Architecture, inviting the public to engage with architecture through movement, light, material, and everyday use, highlighting its role as a shared social value. Highlights include the Cukrarna Palace, Kopališče Vevče, the new Ljubljana railway station, Alpine Houses in Gorenjska, and the Libertas cultural centre.
This year, the festival also extends beyond Slovenia’s borders to Trieste, where visitors will be able to see the Slovene Permanent Theatre and the remarkable Vurnik Chapel.
OPEN HOUSE NICOSIA
NICOSIA, CYPRUS
18-19 APRIL
The inaugural edition of Open House Nicosia will offer guided tours of architecturally significant buildings alongside a curated programme of parallel activities across Nicosia.
40 buildings will open their doors to the public, transforming the city into a living museum of architecture and showcasing its diverse urban fabric, from historic residences and heritage landmarks to contemporary offices and cultural spaces. The festival is complemented by thematic architectural walks, an architectural presentation, and a photography competition.
